Hostel at College of Medicine Idi-Araba gutted by fire this morning

 

One of the hostels at Medical School LUTH, block 6, was gutted by fire around 9am this morning. No lives were lost but properties and other valuables were destroyed in the inferno that lasted for over an hour before it was put out by the fire service. Cause of the fire is still unknown

Dbanj To Perform For An Hour With Live Band At TOP10MICS

Fresh off his 2012 MOBO Awards success where he was named ‘Best African Act’ for his song, ‘Oliver Twist’, Dapo Oyebanjo popularly called Dbanj will perform at this year’s music concert, TOP10MICS for one hour with a live band as the concert holds at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island , Lagos on Friday, November 30, 2012.
Before now, most artistes perform to a CD and a skeletal band but the major highlights at this year’s music concert would be live performances from headlining acts; Tuface Idibia, Femi Kuti and Sir Shina Peters.

PM News investigation revealed that while the girl’s parents were away at work, the houseboy allegedly grabbed his boss’ six-year old daughter (name withheld) pulled off her clothes and had carnal knowledge of her.

When Mr. and Mrs. Dopemu returned from work, they noticed their daughter’s unusual mood. They later discovered blood in her private part.

The matter was reported to the police at Bode Thomas Divisional Headquarters. Thompson was arrested and investigated.

In his confessional statement, the suspect allegedly wrote: “When both of us were at home alone, I saw her body naked. I was charged and emotionally carried away.

He was arraigned before a family court sitting at Tinubu, Lagos Island.

Tonto, Helen Paul with Afro Nollywood awards

Winners have emerged in the 17th  African Film Awards 2012 a.k.a Afro Hollywood Awards at a special ceremony held in Akure, Ondo State capital, last week.

Sultry Actresses, Tonto Dike and Helen Paul were some of the winners of the awards organised by African Voice Newspaper, UK.

The high point of the event was when a new entrant, Kiki Omeili  who starred in “Married But Living Single” was adjudged winner of Best Actress in supporting role in an English language film. She defeated Oge Okoye and Nse Ikpe Etim to clinch the prize, while Tonto Dike emerged Best Actress of the year, defeating Omoni Oboli and Chika Ike.

The winners will be attending the prestigious annual awards slated for November 3,  in London. At the  event also, the winner of the African Actor of the Year will be announced.

The contest is between Joseph Benjamin of Nigeria (Tango With Me), Van Vicker of Ghana and one of South Africa’s leading Actors, Jafta Mamabolo (famed for his role in Otelo Burning).

Prince Mike Abiola, publisher of African Voice Newspaper UK and Chairman of the awards organisation, said, “I am so pleased with the result of the distinguished and independent panel of film critics who  watched many Nollywood films to arrive at the winners. Benin Republic president's doctor and niece try to poison him

Benin Republic president’s doctor, Dr. Ibrahim Mama Cisse, his niece, Zouberatou Kora, and Benin's former Minister of Trade Moudjaidou Soumanou were a part of a failed plot to poison the president by changing his medicine with something toxic.

The doctor and the niece were said to have been promised payment of almost $2million if they succeed in killing the president. It later emerged that Benin multimillionaire businessman, Patrice Talon, was the one who hired their services. Fortunately they didn't succeed. The plot to poison the president failed after his niece told her sister about their plan. The sister then told the president.



The state prosecutor said the president's niece picked up drugs at the Cotonou airport on Friday Oct.19, and gave them to Dr. Cisse. He said the drugs from Soumanou are “drugs that the head of state usually takes but were this time substituted and replaced by toxic ingredients.” But before they could administer the drugs, they were arrested.

The doctor, niece and ex-minister have been charged with attempted murder and are currently locked up in a prison in Cotonou while there's an arrest warrant for Mr Talon

Man responsible for Arik Air bomb scare released from police custody

 

The man responsible for Arik Air bomb scare has been released from police custody. The man, identified as Aminu Galadima, is an interior decorator with a history of mental illness. Mr Galadima was released after investigators were satisfied that he had no intentions of blowing up the plane and also had no ties to any terrorist group. This is a brief highlight of the incident that occurred on the Arik Air flight from Maiduguri to Abuja.

On Friday, 19th October, 2012, Wife of the SSG to the Borno State Government, Hajia Yachilla JIDDA, travelled to Maiduguri in company of one Aminu S. GALADIMA, an interior decorator based in Abuja to do some interior decoration work. On arrival in Maiduguri, he was lodged at Greenland Hotel. During the course of his stay, he exhibited unusual behaviour by smashing a window, and ended up with lacerations on his hands.

The SSG was contacted, and in collaboration with the Hotel management, subject was taken to Atal Hospital, also in Maiduguri, where he received treatment. His family in Abuja was contacted and they gave confirmation that GALADIMA has been mentally unstable. In addition, his elder brother who lives in the UK was contacted and he requested that subject be returned to Abuja for medical attention.

On Sunday, 21st October, 2012, he was taken to the airport to be returned to Abuja, but missed the flight. However, the Airport management was informed of his state of health, and they advised that whenever his return is scheduled, the management should be notified. Unfortunately, when GALADIMA was taken to the Airport on 23rd October for his return trip, the management of the Airport was not informed, and 10 minutes into the flight, due to slight turbulence, his condition was triggered off. Meanwhile, GALADIMA is in the custody of security forces.
       
This clarification has become necessary to dispel the unfounded rumours concerning the flight.

It promises to be a clash of music heavyweights on Friday, November 30, 2012 at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos as the likes of 2face, Dbanj, Basketmouth, Femi Kuti and others lock horns on stage at this year’s edition of the TOP10MICS concert.

The music concert which is been organised by entertainment powerhouse, Koga Entertainment will also feature Afro Juju legend, Sir Shina Peters with ace comedian, Basketmouth anchoring the widely publicized music event. The presenter of the Big Friday Show succeeds ace humorist, Alibaba who anchored last year’s concert at the TBS, Lagos. 

 

The concert’s maiden edition held last year at the expansive Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) but is now returning to the upscale Eko Hotels and Suites this year. Top music acts headlined last year’s concert, the likes of 2face, MI, P Square, Femi Kuti, Mocheddah, Obesere, Duncan Mighty, Wizkid, Sir Shina Peters and Eldee.

 

Meanwhile, Flavour who had earlier been announced as one of the participants will no longer be a part of the concert as he had another show in far away Malaysia.

Tonto Dikeh gets more famous

Not everyone is cut out to be a musician/singer however that doesn’t mean you cannot try as long as you know when to shut it down. Tonto Dikeh (Tonto Dike) happens to fall outside the category of people that know when to quit as she just put out two new songs following her much criticised song, Iyawo Wind, with Nigerian musician Kas which was released some months back.
Following the release of the new tracks, Get High and Itzova, many fans and critics of the actress from Rivers State-Nigeria had many things to say about the songs but one thing was obvious from the comments, many people were of the opinion that she didnt do so well on the tracks.

14 People killed in Jigawa State due to flood

Jigawa State Government, yesterday, said no fewer than 14 persons killed by the flood that had ravaged parts of the state.
Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Relief Agency, SEMA, Alhaji Aliyu Waziri, who disclosed this in an interview with Vanguard, warned that more towns will be affected.
“There was heavy rainfall throughout and that was why every where was flooded. This year, the flooding affected all the 27 local governments of the state, but some places are more affected.”
The SEMA executive secretary further disclosed that apart from farmlands that were lost to the flood, many roads and bridges were also affected in many parts of the state, adding that the damage recorded was not limited to small villages around river banks alone.
He called on well meaning people in the state to assist victims of the flood, saying government alone could not carry the burden.
Waziri said the state government had spent millions of naira to provide relief materials to victims, adding that a federal government delegation had visited the state and promised to send in more assistance to the victims.

Former Super Eagles goal keeper and captain, Peter Rufai, yesterday night suddenly slumped inside his office.

The football Icon, 49, was rushed to Toki Hospital off Adeniran Ogunsanya, Surulere where doctors are doing everything they can to stabilize him. His younger brother Bruce Rufai said he's yet to come around and doctors don't know yet why he slumped.

Bruce told sports journalist, Kayode Tijani, that Peter has been taking the death of their 78 year old mother badly since her passing some days ago. Please say a prayer for Peter Rufai

Heroin, Guns and weed found on Nelly's tour bus

Rapper Nelly was detained last night in Texas while police officers searched his tour bus and found heroin in addition to a loaded gun and massive amounts of weed, law enforcement sources tell TMZ.
According to law enforcement sources, Nelly's bus was stopped at a border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca -- and a police canine detected the presence of drugs.
We're told cops pulled the bus over -- and after performing a search, they found 36 small baggies of heroin (totaling .64 ounces) and over TEN POUNDS of marijuana inside a large green duffel bag (an amount roughly the size of a large bed pillow).
Cops also say they found a loaded .45 caliber pistol.
There were seven people riding on Nelly's bus at the time -- including the rapper -- and they were all detained during the search.
According to law enforcement sources, one of the passengers -- a guy named Brian Keith Jones -- admitted the drugs and the gun were his. He was subsequently placed under arrest.

UNIPORT killings:Community counts losses after students’ rampage

The people of Omuokiri Aluu Community have begun to count their losses barely 24 hours after students from the University of Port Harcourt embarked on reprisals to avenge the killings of their colleagues.
The angry students had on Tuesday stormed the community, burnt some houses, cars and other property over the torture and murder of the students on Friday.

Four undergraduates of UNIPORT were lynched by a mob comprising members of the community for allegedly stealing laptop computer and a BlackBerry phone.
The students were Biringa Chiadika of the Theatre Arts Department; Ugonna Obuzor of Geology Department, Mike Toku Llyod of Civil Engineering Department and Tekena Elkena.
When our correspondent visited the community on Wednesday, few of the indigenes were seen bemoaning their losses.
One of the leaders of the community, Sunday Ahanonu, said he had lost all he laboured for to the students’ reprisals.
Ahanonu, whose house was torched by the students, expressed shock that security agents could not stop the rampaging students when they stormed the community.
Sixty-five-year-old Ahanonu and father of 15 children, worked at UNIPORT for 35 years before he retired.
He appealed to the state government and the management of the university to compensate him for the destruction of his property, adding that he and members of his family were not involved in the killings of the students.

11 people including the traditional head of Omuokiri-Aluu community, Chief Alhaji Hassan Walewa have been arraigned at the High Court in Port Harcourt over the brutal murder last Friday of four students of the University of Port Harcourt.


The state Police Commissioner, Mr Mohammed Ndabawa who made this known when the Executive Secretary of the National Human rights Commission, Prof Ben Agwe and his team visited him at the Police headquarters in Port Harcourt said a total of thirteen persons had so far been arrested in connection with the ugly incident.The state Police boss who spoke through his Deputy Police Commissioner, Mr Thomas Etomi said two persons out of the thirteen were kept behind to aid police investigation.

He assured that the Police would unearth all details relating to the murder, adding that the Commission would be kept abreast with minute developments from the Police angle on the issue.

Chidi Mokeme Returns As Host of Gulder Ultimate Search

Gulder ultimate search is no doubt one of the best reality TV shows in Nigeria. It has in the last eight years used different hosts for each season of the show. But this time, the organizers have decided to bring back Chidi Mokeme who anchored the first edition of the reality show. Gulder Ultimate Search organizers however announced on Sunday, October 7,2012 at Eko Hotel And Suites, Lagos during the final stage of selection of the 2012 contestants and also the unveiling of the crew members.

The 12 finalists include Kofya Brown, Bornford Patience, Ayo Ojueromi, Uzor Osimkpa, Udodi Onyinyechukwu, and Ezeh Priscillia. Others are Ujam Emmanuel, Nuhu Haruna, Ogbuefi Michael, Ifet Iniobong, Ojezele Paschal and Adah James, all of who will proceed to the Usaka forest in the Obot Akara local government area of Akwa Ibom State.

Established thespian Joke Silva and rapper Jude Abaga have been appointed and decorated as goodwill ambassadors against human trafficking and smuggling of migrants by the UN.

Our sweep-it-under-the-carpet and move on syndrome is taking us at an unprecedented height. We need to rise up as an entity and decry this evil in our security system or it will take us all under in the wake of its tide. I’m not a doomsday messenger but it’s easy to see where this propensity is leading us.

UNIPORT students retaliate as they set Omuokiri-Aluu ablaze

UNIPORT students yesterday stormed Omuokiri-Aluu setting at least 12 houses ablaze, they descended the small village in their hundreds protesting the violent murder of the four students. The UNIPORT students were mobilised by students of other universities under the umbrella of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS. The students blocked major roads in Port Harcourt before moving to Aluu but fortunately for the indigenes, they were all gone before the students got there, the whole village was deserted, not a single soul was seen anywhere. They love their lives eh.
